Trevor Horne
| Trevor is a six year old boy that was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer in April 2007. Pronounced: rab-doe-my-uh-sar-koe-muhz Rhabdomyosarcoma tumors arise from a cell called a "rhabdomyoblast", which is a primitive muscle cell. The cells grow out of control and the tumors can appear at numerous locations. The four major sites in which rhabdomyosarcoma is found are:
* head and neck; around the eyes -- 35-40% Rhabdomyosarcoma is a relatively rare form of cancer and is a fast growing, highly malignant tumor which accounts for over half of the soft tissue sarcomas in children and accounts for 5-8% of childhood cancers. 70% of all rhabdomyosarcoma cases diagnosed in the first ten years of life. Trevor's cancer is behind his left eye. He has been treated with chemotherapy and radiation, which was completed in January 2008. Unfortunately in May he had a recurrence of the disease and underwent extensive surgery and restarted chemotherapy and has been admitted to Brenner's Children's hospital every three weeks since June. Trevor is in Kindergarden at Briar Creek Elementary School and we are happy to see Trevor here today with us. We applaud his courage and bravery and hope others learn from him and the challenges he will face everyday. We support this family and hope Spin for Life event will help alleviate the daily stress they endure and encourage everyone to share in fellowship that surrounds Trevor and families like his. |
